OLAS Fanzine could* make comeback
|
Hi all, Before you shoot the messenger... having family in common with OLAS founder Gary Firmager and speaking to him he is adamant he won't come back and sell OLAS at West Ham due to his stubbornness towards the board, the new gaff and feeling like because of the power of social media that OLAS isn't needed anymore.
I've convinced Gary that OLAS was loved by fans, it was a homely enjoyable West Ham fanzine cherished by fans and despite his reggae djing he WILL return ONLY if this Facebook page gets 5000 likes - https://www.facebook.com/BringBackOLASFanzine/
This does seem like an impossible task as 5000 likes is a hefty amount however we've already gained 590 likes in 24 hours and despite myself being caught up in Twitter and social media I do feel I'd prefer reading OLAS than watching trolls on Twitter.
Please help support OLAS and bring it back... WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT... like this page here - https://www.facebook.com/BringBackOLASFanzine/

TBH he stopped doing it for a reason, and he was probably right, regardless of how good it was. Times have changed.

If he can't be bothered, and you think it's such a great idea, then why don't you do it yourself? It can't be that hard.

I never liked Firmager, I agree he always saw himself as 'The Voice of the Fans' and I found myself disagreeing with him by default because of it but I agree with him here, it's better left in the past. Plus it was never that good really anyway, was it, in all honesty?
FAH was always the KING of West Ham fanzines by a fucking country mile.

OLAS was great when it started.... then got pretty boring for me... FAH and On a Mission were superb and as cutting as you could get... was great reading on a train home or a long away day

I used to buy them all years ago, but FAH is the one that stood out.
My post match routine involved visiting the much missed Sportspages sport book shop off Cambridge circus and stocking up, as well as reading other clubs'. For a while I worked in the building next to it and my office looked down into the shop, so I was in there most days. I miss the 80s sometimes.

I always liked OLAS and thought Gary was a sound bloke. People talk about the "voice of the fans" view and they have a point however anyone was free to write and express their view and I read articles in OLAS which did not go along with his view including a few pro move pieces.
Having said that I think he made the right decision, it was the right time to finish.
